Project PERCH.
Pre-Engineering Research Center of Honolulu.
About PERCH
The goal of this project is to establish a training center to engage young people in exploration of the wealth of opportunities offered by science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Initially, the center would kindle student interest through hands-on robotics activities (design, fabrication, and programming). As the program grows, it could expand to include training in video production, animation, Web design, machining, and advanced programming, as well as expand to include training opportunities for adults entering or re-entering the workforce. The program would become a feeder for both the pre-engineering program at Kapiolani Community College and the UH-Manoa College of Engineering. It would provide an outlet for student exploration and skills development of STEM fundamentals, and yield higher quality, better-prepared citizens with the skills needed to be innovative leaders for Hawaii’s future.
